A big Thank You to all of you that helped us raise £114 on Friday’s Christmas Jumper Day.

Welcome to Sunningwell C.E. Primary School

Sunningwell is a small rural school in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside close to the city of Oxford and the town of Abingdon. We are proud of our connections to the local community, including the church of St Leonard’s in the village and Dalton Barracks.

We are well supported by an enthusiastic Parents’ Association and our active Governing Body who pronounced our 2016 KS2 outcomes ‘outstanding’. The Department for Education ranked the school joint fifth in the country (as compared to schools with similar profiles) and eighth out of all the primary schools in Oxfordshire. Well done to all the children and teachers who work so hard to achieve this.

We have a well-equipped playground and wildlife areas including a pond and a wooded spinney which are the focus of many science and outdoor lessons. We are working with the Abingdon Area Archaeological and Historical Society to excavate the footings of a Tudor cottage in our Spinney and have enjoyed association with Heritage Opera who helped us stage our own production of The Magic Flute.

The school won the Sporting Primary School of the Year in the Oxfordshire Sports Awards in October 2015 and has achieved the Sainsbury’s Gold Mark for School Games for the last three years. We have a number of very active sports teams and encourage all of our children to participate in a wide range of sports. After school clubs run every day including sports, art and IT.
